It's summer and the kids have been out of school for a few weeks. So are your kids already complaining they are bored? There is no excuse for it. Effingham County (and the surrounding area) has plenty of fun activities for children to participate in during the summer.
Churches throughout the county have already had Vacation Bible School programs (with many more churches to host theirs in the upcoming weeks). Some have weekly outings or field trips to get involved in and get out of the house. Others have changed up their normal meeting times to offer more energetic activites during the summer months.
The library is offering afternoon programs for children about twice a week at either of the county's two libraries. They are also challenging children to read by offering their annual summer reading program where children can earn prizes for reading. (A great way to spend those hours during the heat of the day when it may be too hot to play outdoors.)
Churches and civic groups are holding community events to get the whole family involved. One church did a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity. A local business has been holding carnival like events to raise money for the Imperial Sugar workers.
Now I want to know how you are getting your child involved this summer. What fun activities have you found to do that are close? Have your children gotten involved in the giving spirit this summer? Did the children of your church raise money during your VBS? How much did you raise and for what cause? Did your youth group do a fun activity to raise money for a community program? How did you involve the teenagers?
