It's time for kickoff

I can’t believe high school football season is finally here. It seems like it has been a long time — and it’s been about a month — since practice started. I don’t think the players miss the two-a-days and three-a-days that were a part of preseason camps. I think the coaches might miss them a little and for us, it was fun. You could catch one team in the morning and the other later in the day and you could talk with the coaches during the down time between sessions.

The early start of the school year has wiped that out.

I really don’t know what to expect this year. Last year, I knew Effingham could be a playoff team and that people shouldn’t go to sleep on South Effingham — they had a chance, especially on offense, to be lethal.

This year, each team still has a fairly tough schedule and their non-region games are particularly tough.

It will be interesting, and you can follow along on Twitter or Facebook for nearly every game.

The voices of summer
August 07, 2014
I don’t watch or listen to the Braves as much as I once did. When they were bad, perhaps the worst franchise in all of baseball and maybe all of professional sports, nothing could sway me from the TV, thanks to the trio of Ernie Johnson Sr., Skip Caray and ...
