Rudeness at Graduation

Saturday evening marked the high school graduation of my nephew. We had family fly in from Germany and Ohio. We excitedly left for the stadium at 4:40pm for the 7pm start. Since three of our family members were over 70, we found seats on the three levels starting at the bottom. We felt that this would be the safest way for our family to enjoy the graduation. What we didn't realize was that everyone who arrived too late to find a seat would just stand at the fence in front of those who were seated. We witnessed the police officers move people all evening. When we would ask folks to please move, they argued and were extremely rude. It took the persistent officers to move them. The next step in rudeness came after they started calling graduates. Folks left after their grads name was called. This brought people down from the stands to walk in front of all those still waiting for their grad. My son and I had to physically block off the walkway so that our family members could see our graduate walk. Thanks to all of you who continued to rudely block our views. Our visiting family really got a good look at southern Georgia townsfolk.

Aunt Jackie,
Since so many people have had the same problem at graduation before, I applaud your initiative in speaking out. I don't understand why the school can't find a more suitable place to hold the graduation ceremony. It's always the football field come rain or shine. I'm sure there are other options, most of the schools in the area seem to be able to find one. An inside seated area might solve the problem of the rude and uncaring people who ruin graduation for everyone else.

Aunt Jackie,
Thank you so much for helping all of us to see our ECHS graduate walk across the stage & receive his diploma.
When I approached that "southern gentleman" standing in front of us at the fence, I asked him politely to move down letting him know he was blocking our view & we want to be able to see our graduate receive his diploma. He said, "I got a son out there graduatin' & I wanna' be able to see him too". I told him that was wonderful & we're not trying to be rude but, we arrived at the stadium at 5:15pm so that we could get a seat. He so boldly & rudely said to me, "you wanna trade places"? Unbelieveable!
So when the Sheriff's Deputies came to move him, he tucked his tail & took off!
I have apologized to all of our friends & family for the rude behavior of all those selfish people who couldn't care less if we got to see our graduate receive his diploma.
I agree with Aunt Pat that "an inside seated area might solve the problem of the rude & uncaring people who ruin graduation for everyone else".
I really do hope all you rude & selfish people were able to see your graduates receive their diplomas.
