A little cross media plug here.
Our sister paper in Statesboro has a short Web newscast each day. On Monday, their moment in Bulloch County History was … How Effingham County got its name.
There is a good presentation by local (local to Bulloch County) historian Roger Allen on the third Earl of Effingham, Lord Thomas Howard. He goes into detail on the Earl of Effingham’s career and how his stance on the American colonists cost him his career. Lord Howard was applauded for his convictions on his loyalty to the citizens. The segment begins at about the 3:25 mark of the show.
If you want to check out Studio Statesboro and watch it, here’s the link:
http://studiostatesboro.statesboroherald.com/monday.html (you may have to cut and paste into the browser). It’s the second segment in the show for the day. The show will be up there for the rest of the week, I believe.
