Johnson’s on 4th has closed — for now — but a new restaurant will be opening in its place very soon.

The new restaurant apparently will be called Debbie’s on 4th, Effingham Chamber of Commerce members learned Wednesday.

Chamber Executive Director Rick Lott also announced the annual Taste of Effingham will be held March 6 from 5-7 p.m. and this year, local chef Nick Mueller will be able to participate so people can partake of his offerings.

The Civil War Experience will return April 5, and the fund-raising golf tournament that precedes it will be held March 28 at Lost Plantation. The golf tournament benefits several local charitable and outreach organizations.

The annual bicycle ride to benefit the Mars Theatre will be held April 26, one day after the theatre’s grand opening. Expect to see some dry runs and sneak previews at the theatre as they get ready to fling open the doors for all.

Also, Family Promise will be holding its first bed race March 22 at Effingham County High School to raise money for its organization.
