Candidates impressed by forum crowd

Take Me To Post Comment Form

So many times, candidate forums are lightly attended. Not so much Tuesday night.

The Effingham Chamber of Commerce and the Effingham College and Career Academy — respectively, the sponsor and host location for the forums — estimated more than 200 people were in attendance. And this was with the event being streamed live, courtesy of the high schools.

Even the candidates were surprised, and pleasantly so, at the turnout.

“I wish we could get three rows of the people we have here tonight at a county commission meeting,” said Steve Mason, the incumbent 3rd District commissioner running to keep his seat. “This is an amazing turnout.”

Many of the events broadcast on the Web are archived for later viewing, but I don’t know if that will be the case for the forum. I do know some people did watch but I also have heard from others that they had trouble getting the feed to work. Hopefully, the forum stream will be archived for on-demand viewing, before primary voting day.
