Claiming for Damages After Laser Hair Removal

Take Me To Post Comment Form

While it may appear to be safe and pain free to have laser hair removal treatment for an area of the body like the legs or the arms, it seems a little more risky when you are thinking about the area around the eyes. But many people suffer from excess facial hair and since laser hair removal is a permanent hair removal method, it would be great if it could be used in the facial area. Is laser hair removal safe for the area around the eyes? What happens if you get injured following laser hair removal for the facial area?

Risks of Laser Hair Removal Around the Eyes
Laser hair removal or IPL is an established procedure that removes hair permanently from the treated area. Lasers are powerful and also highly direct, making them perfect for targeting small areas of skin. But the application of laser beams for cosmetic purposes is not entirely regulated. While many practitioners are safe, professional, trained and experienced, some are not. This matters particularly strongly when the laser hair removal is taking place around the eyes.

The eyes are highly sensitive organs that are prone to damage from the intense light of lasers. The biggest risk you have when you undergo laser hair removal around the eyes is the risk of burning the retina. This can result in permanent eye damage and vision problems, and can even lead to blindness. It can also be risky to remove hair from the area around the eyes due to the increased risk of scarring or marking the sensitive skin around the eyes and on the face.

Should I Have Hair Removed From My Face With Lasers?
In order to decide if the procedure is something for you, you must weigh up the risks and the benefits of the procedure. If facial hair is causing you significant emotional distress it can be worth it to remove the hair permanently. Also you need to consult a clinic as some will not offer hair removal around the eyes with a laser and will suggest other ways of removing the hair such as waxing or threading, or electrolysis.

Ensuring Safety for the Eyes
If you are sure you want the procedure and the clinic is willing to carry it out, make sure that you choose a highly experienced practitioner. Understand how long they will be exposing your skin to the light, and how much energy the laser emits. It is important also that you wear the correct eye safety equipment.

If you experience any injury to the eyes following laser hair removal then consult a laser burn lawyer as soon as possible. You could be able to claim for compensation if the beautician or salon acted in a negligent way.
