Aspects to Consider when Building a Dental Office

Being a dentist can be a rewarding profession. You are, after all, providing an invaluable service to the community, and over time, you will be able to establish a long-standing and mutually beneficial relationship with your patients. But if you are just starting out with your dental practice, you need to make sure that the office you choose is the right one. Apart from this, once you have your office, it needs to be built and designed with efficiency, practicality, comfort, and aesthetics in mind. Here, then, is a list of some crucial aspects to consider when choosing – and building – your dental office.

The location

The location is of prime importance, not only because it will determine how successful (and busy) you are, but also because it can make things easier for you. Granted, it’s a personal decision, but the location should ultimately provide you with a thriving practice in a good community. In order to make the right decision when it comes to location, you should first make a list of your dream practice – what do you envision your practice to be? You should also do a review of your business image along with your business plan, and try to carry out a needs assessment of your community as well as your patients.

Office size

The size of your office matters – so, make sure you choose the right size according to factors such as the number of patients you have per day, the length of time your office will be used, and how many staff you have. You should also consider the type of dental practice you have (the more specialised it is, the more equipment you will need – hence, the more space you will require). One example: a dental practitioner wanting a total of four rooms for treatment, with one hygienist, and requiring additional areas for storage and administrative tasks, will often require about 102 square metres of space. But even a smaller office, if it is efficiently-designed, can work as well.

The time it takes to construct and remodel

When building your office from the ground up, you need ample time not only for design but also construction. This will usually take about 15 months. If you are remodelling your office, an extensive remodel may take approximately 9 months to a year.

The right dental equipment and supplies

Of course, the most modern and beautiful dental office will come to nothing without the right dental equipment and supplies. These are an investment, so choose wisely. Your equipment will be used for years, after all, so make sure you get it only from trusted manufacturers, such as Sirona Dental. The right equipment and supplies will not only make your tasks easier – it will make your patients more trusting of you as well.
