How To Stay In Shape While Studying Abroad

There’s no doubt that university takes up a good chunk of your time – not to mention your hard earned money! There are countless things you need to remember when you study abroad, including your ukehic and while there may not be enough hours in the day to go to the gym or even unpack your suitcase (okay, there’s probably enough time to do that… Maybe.), it is possible to stay in shape while studying abroad without spending a single penny! From taking the stairs instead of the elevator to the top floor and making good use of the gym on your campus between lectures, here is how to stay in shape whilst studying overseas:
Walk More!
Walking has countless benefits, and is a workout that isn’t necessarily considered a workout. Not only can walking for 30 minutes a day help you maintain a healthy weight, it can help prevent heart disease, type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. Whilst jumping on the bus or train in the early hours of the morning requires less effort, a pleasurable walk can do you a world of good and significantly lift your mood.
Eat Well
Whilst eating healthily on a student budget sounds like a lot of effort, there are cheap, easy and tasty ways to meal plan, and even though the convenient of ready meals never go amiss, we both know that it won’t fill you up. When you study abroad, you will want to choose the most convenient food to eat, but a diet of Pot Noodle, take-out and ready meals will catch up on you. The best way to eat well at university is to prepare your food for the following week where you can. Whilst you may have to spend two or even three hours in the communal kitchen preparing your breakfast, lunch and dinner for the upcoming 7 days, you will no longer opt for the unhealthiest option in the fridge and you won’t have to spend time cooking after a long day’s work.
Join The Gym
For some, balancing study and going to the gym is almost impossible, and we certainly agree that it can be difficult – especially when you have a demanding job alongside a heap of work due by the end of the week. In order to balance study and going to the gym successfully, we suggest writing out a daily schedule to identify what you plan to achieve and design a workout calendar. This is the ultimate way to stay on track, and it will help you perform better. It’s time to organise your life!
Stay Positive
Whilst it’s easy to let a rough patch get you down, try not to let it! Even though you might be stressed out to the max, having a positive attitude can help you overcome unexpected situations and stay in shape. In order to maintain a positive attitude, we suggest listening to uplifting music, reading a book or simply doing something that brings you joy, whether it be hanging out with friends or going to the gym to relieve stress. Whatever you do, continue to move forward towards your dreams and goals, and eventually, you will be the person you are working to become.
